OUR AIM / OUR GOAL
The fundamental aim of Barikat Art Foundation is to raise social awareness, sensitivity, and a sense of responsibility regarding disability, an issue that directly or indirectly affects 1 billion persons with disabilities worldwide and approximately 4 billion people living with or connected to them. Our Foundation approaches disability not as an individual deficiency or an exceptional condition, but as a universal reality that any person may encounter at some point in their life. From this perspective, we invite all segments of society to reconsider their relationship with persons with disabilities and to confront the reality that everyone is potentially a person with a disability or a relative of one. Our aim is to ensure that persons with disabilities are not perceived as individuals in need of charity, but are recognised as rights holders who are equal, productive, and dignified individuals, visible and actively involved in all areas of social life. In this regard, our Foundation advocates disability rights and human rights as an inseparable whole, grounded in inclusive and universal legal principles. By harnessing the transformative power of art and sport, Barikat Art Foundation seeks to overcome prejudices, invisible barriers, and social silence. By making cultural, artistic, and sporting spheres accessible to all, we support persons with disabilities in becoming not merely spectators, but active producers, participants, and contributors who help shape society. The ultimate goal of our Foundation is to transform perceptions of disability in the minds of people with diverse ways of thinking, living, and experiencing the world, and to build a shared social consciousness based on equality, human dignity, and inclusivity. Because disability rights are not only the concern of persons with disabilities, but a shared responsibility and collective struggle of society as a whole.
